Community Health Youth Leaders In School

In 2016 we extended our healthcare education programme to more rural women in Niger by developing a Community Health Women’s Leaders training module.

Our in-country staff educate a group of women on a specific health topic, then these community health women’s leaders (CHWL) train more women, we help them with on-going monthly staff support.  Each CHWL receives a certificate after one year of service from the Niger Ministry of Health.

The Step Up! grant has enabled us to extend this approach to youth. First, we will provide adolescent girls with health training at the Hamsa Girls Education Center to develop them into Community Health Youth Leaders-In School (CHYL-In School), then we plan to extend CHYL into other schools and communities.
