Girlsaide Empowerment Initiative

Supporting disabled youth to make healthier lifestyle choices (Nigeria)

People living with disabilities have higher rates of unhealthy behaviours such as smoking, poor diet and physical inactivity which increase their risk of contracting NCDs, yet many people living with disabilities lack access to disability-specific health care.

We are developing a registry of health institutions that can accommodate and meet the needs of those living with disabilities and are developing ‘edutainment’ modules to promote healthy living to disabled people. These will be available in English, the three main local languages and braille - with content subtitled and shown in sign language. The modules will be compressed to be sharable on various digital platforms and will be available for use in schools.
