Addressing Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) related risk behaviours in young people.

Diabetes, hypertension and obesity rates are alarmingly high among adolescents in most states in India, and an alcohol ban in Kerala from 2014 to 2017 led to increased use of cannabis and other drug use.

To combat these threat we are developing youth groups drawn from the neediest in society who will use their phones to record their food habits and daily steps, those without phones recording their details in a registry. The work will be extended through 54 Bal Jyothi Study Centres to 1100 school students aged 6-15, and we will identify trainers from among them to spread the training more widely in the community.
