Young Ambassadors for Breast Cancer Awareness (YABCA) in Ghana

Although, the majority of women diagnosed with breast cancer in Ghana are below 50 years, breast cancer education targets older women, demonstrating the need for breast health awareness for the youth.

Our project is designed for female high school students aged 13-20 trained as ambassadors for breast cancer awareness leaders to empower the youth within their schools and communities. Our goal is to increase the knowledge of young adults about the risks of breast cancer and benefits of early detection so that future women are knowledgeable enough to seek appropriate medical attention early. By actively propagating youth-friendly messages, young people will develop a strong sense of ownership of the project. We hope that young ambassadors will create breast cancer clubs in their communities enhancing healthy choices and action to minimize morbidity and mortality of breast cancer in Ghana.
